Aquatics and Pools

Money Raised Saves Cincinnati Pools from Early Closings!
Though it seemed that Cincinnati Pools were destined for early closure this summer due to lack of funding, Mayor Mark Mallory and others stepped in to raise around $140,000 to keep the pools open at least another week.
Special thanks to Mayor Mark Mallory, Stan Chesley and others for making this possible.

CRC City-Wide Stingrays Team
Year round USA Swimming swim team instruction and fitness is available quarterly, for youth ages 17 and under, at Krueck Pool, 270 W. McMillan, in Clifton.  Practices are Monday through Friday from 6:45pm to 8:30pm.  Swimmers may attend as many practices as their schedule allows.  We usually have 1-2 meets a month during fall and winter quarters. Swim for one quarter or all three, this program is offered fall, winter and spring. Cost $125/qtr. or $300/year.

Aquacize
CRC wants to help you improve your fitness level, decrease stress, build strength and muscle tone through fun aquatic fitness programs. 
Aquacize is an aerobic water workout, designed to get your heart pumping for a 45-60 minute class. Call Aquatics Division at 357-POOL (7665) for information.

Fitness Lap Swim
Fitness Lap Swim is a great chance to get in the pool and get in some distance swimming. Lap lane(s) are available, based on attendance, at most of our deep water pools during evening swim team practice and some locations during open swim times.  Call your local CRC pool for availability.

Lifeguard Training Courses
(American Red Cross)
Each year the Cincinnati Recreation Commission recruits and trains 325 lifeguards to 'Work the Water' at CRC public pools.  CRC aquatic staff instructors hold free, swim stroke clinics in the evenings during Fall, Winter and Spring at Krueck Indoor Pool in Clifton.  These clinics are designed for anyone age 14 and older who wishes to learn and refine their swimming skills in preparation for Lifeguard Training Courses. They are offered continuously in two week sessions and you can start anytime.

Youth

Teen Backpacking Trips
Teens from across the city have the opportunity to experience backpacking and camping in the backcountry areas of the East Fork Lake Region. For more information or to register your group, call Steve at McKie Adventure Programming Center 681-8247.

Adventure Outpost
In a partnership with Hamilton County Parks, CRC brings youth participants to Adventure Outpost at Winton Woods.  Youth and teens have the opportunity to camp in cabins for 3 days and 2 nights.Youth gain confidence and learn teamwork skills while participating in these activities such as ropes course, bicycling, canoeing and hiking. Please register through your local CRC Recreation Center.

Hooked-On-Fishing
• Emphasizes the value of being involved in positive outdoor recreation activities, while educating children about the
negatives of drug use
• Weekly instructional fishing trips, fish identification, environmental conservation, fishing safety and lure-making
• Youth participate in WaterFest workshops covering water safety, exploration and fishing education.
• Other activities included field trips to the Newport Aquarium and camping and fishing activities at Burnet Woods, the Little Miami River, Caesars Creek, Rocky Fork Lake, and the Ohio River.

Kayak Skills Development
The pool is a perfect place to learn the fundamentals of kayaking. It’s also a great way for skilled paddlers to
mentor a teenage kayaker.  This class is for experienced or novice kayakers.  Develop or perfect your moves. 
Learn about paddling safely, basic paddle strokes, wet exits, rolls and rodeo moves in these Monday or Wednesday evening classes.  Whether you own a kayak or not, join the group for a lot of fun and some river trips.  Call McKie Recreation Center at 681-8247 for more information.


Athletics, Teams and Leagues

Youth, ages 8 to 14 years
2 leagues: one in spring and one in fall
A grant from the Anthony Munoz Foundation and the National Parks & Recreation Association provides funding to purchase, jerseys, safety equipment and promotional materials for this exciting co-ed program which teaches youth the fundamentals of football. Youth learn teamwork and good sportsmanship while developing fitness skills in this active, outdoor sport.

Youth Back on the Block - 3 on 3 Basketball  
June – August at local neighborhood sites.
Sign up for league play at your local CRC Recreation center.

Volleyball
Volleyball tournaments cost $285/Team, and there are tournaments taking place through October. Call the Athletic Division at 352-4020 for more information.

Sawyer Point

The Showboat Majestic
Showboat Magestic logo
  The Showboat Majestic, Cincinnati's floating slice of theatrical history is filled with musicals and comedies to please every patron.
The Showboat Majestic is located on Cincinnati's Public Landing and is a genuine National Historic Landmark. Built in 1923, it is America's last, original and intact showboat.  Moon Over Buffalo, and Sweet Charity will be playing this end of summer season.

Subscriptions: $78.00 - six shows @ $13.00 each.  (Does not include Day Camp, Tall Stacks, nor Frostbite Follies). Students & Seniors: $14.00 • Adults: $15.00.
Performances run Wednesday - Saturday @ 8:00 pm.  Sunday @ 2:00 & 7:00 pm. 
Please Note: The final Sunday of each series performance features a 2:00 pm performance only. Show titles are subject to change based on availability.

Seniors 50+

Archery
Archery is a sport for a life time. Join us as we learn the basics of shooting bow and arrow.  This class is geared for the beginner as well as experienced shooters.  Participants will learn basic skill involving safety, equipment selection, shooting techniques, and scoring.  In addition students will find out about other opportunities available in club and tournament play. Class will take place on Tuesdays, September 12- October 24 from 1:30-3:30pm. Call the Corryville Recreation Center at 221-0888 for more information.


5 Parks in 5 Weeks ~ Back Pack/Hiking
Explore your backyard while getting into shape.  Students will learn the proper techniques for hiking, proper shoes and will make a hiking stick.  We will hike through local parks, one to two miles, carrying a day pack that includes water, food and an emergency kit. While hiking the woods our Don Brannen will be teaching the eco science of the forest that surrounds our neighborhood. Students should wear walking shoes first day of class. Classes will take place Wednesdays August 2&9 at Mckie Center. For more information call McKie Recreation Center at 681-8247.


Senior 50+ RiverTrek
Will take place Monday & Tuesday August 28 & 29 at Morgan’s Canoe for $75.

Kayak Skills Development
Kayaking Classes designed for the beginner student. Participants will learn the different type of Kayaks, basic
paddling techniques, safety procedures, and working of equipment.  Our instructor is Don Brannen a ACA certified Kayak instructor. Classes will take place Thursdays August 3&10 from 9:30-11:30am at McKie Pool. Cost is $55 plus city and pool membership. For more information call McKie Recreation Center at 681-8247.

Sail Rider
The Sail Rider program is an introduction to sailing that includes boat etiquette, safe boating trips and a ride on a boat driven by the wind.  We will travel to Rocky Fork State Park in Hillsboro, Ohio by van.  Wednesday September 20 we will depart at 8:00a from the Lincoln Community Center 1027 Linn Street and returning approximately 6:00pm.  Cost is $20 plus city membership and participants need to bring snacks & water, box lunch included.

Inclusive Programs for 50+
The Therapeutic Recreation Division is working with the Senior Division to include individuals with disabilities and/or arthritis into all CRC programs.  The Senior Division offers an array of programming:
