On Saturday November 19th girls from Bush, LeBlond, Westwood Town Hall and Dunham Recreation Centers, participated in the Girls on the Run 5k race at Sawyer Point. For many of the participants it was their first time participating in a 3.1 mile race!

The race took place after the girls participated in a 10 week program that met twice a week. Girls on the Run is a program that “weaves training for a 5K run with fun, experience-based lessons that improve self-awareness, builds a collection of positive experiences and inspires life-changing confidence through accomplishment.”

Each girl ran with a running buddy that helped encourage her the whole race and after completeing the 5k the girls got to keep the brand new pair of New Balance running shoes that they were fitted for from the Running Spot. The confidence and accomplishment that was across each girls’ face as they crossed the finish line was priceless.
